"Illy Funksters" displayed a series of rare photographs inspired by music, urban culture, and celebrity shot by New York City artist Ricky Powell.
A native New Yorker who has been taking pictures on a serious tip since 1985, Ricky Powell is mostly known for his Hip Hop photos (especially since he toured with the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and other groups in the mid to late 80's). He prides himself on the diversity of his subjects/animals/people. His main forte for the last decade has been 'Street Photography'.
Ricky Powell currently writes a column in Mass Appeal magazine called 'The Doloist' and cohosts an Internet radio show on eastvillageradio.com called 'The Forty Deuce'. He is warmly referred to as "The Lazy Hustler"/"Funky Uncle" by his crew of 'Prominent Intellectuals' who sell CDs on 6th Ave. in front of Bagel Buffet. He still lives in The Village and is in the process of publishing his 5th book, titled 'Illy Funksters'.
